 Board Meeting Minutes

June 14, 2018
 Downtown Visitor Center

The mission of the Bennington Downtown Alliance is to lead and support
 public and private efforts that promote and enhance downtown
 as the vital commercial and cultural heart of the community.

Present: President Eric Peterson, Michael Keane, Jeannie Jenkins, Edie Sawitsky, Heather Maneely, Keith Carey, Shelley Colvin, Laurie Gormley, Linda Foulsham, Matt Harrington*, and Zirwat Chowdhury*. Staff: John Shannahan and Diane Perry.
Absent: Susan Plaisance, Michael McDonough, Beth Wilwol and Ted Bird. *Ex-officio

Call to Order
                    A quorum was confirmed by President Eric Peterson who then convened the meeting at 7:30am.

                    The May 2018 board minutes were reviewed. Action/Resolution- a motion to accept the May minutes was made by Michael Keane, seconded by Linda Foulsham.  All in favor. Motion carried.

Financial Report            
Director John Shannahan reported on the financials which were reviewed at the Organizational level. All is in order.  Action/Resolution- a motion to approve was made by Michael Keane, seconded by Jeannie Jenkins.  
Motion carried.

Director’s Report Discussion regarding report:

  •  Construction projects are happening throughout downtown this summer. Action/Resolution- see New Business.
  •  First Friday – printed material promo starting next week for July 6th. Action/Resolution- all encouraged to attend.

Old Business

  • Action/Resolution- no old business discussed.

New Business

  • Downtown construction – John will attend a meeting tomorrow regarding the construction happening this summer in the downtown district and beyond. VTrans will be presenting information that BDA can possibly use to strategize the best possible scenario for Downtown during the construction schedule. BDA will continue to meet its mission by keeping clear communications with all parties involved, including the Town, construction team, merchants, residents, tourists, and the general community. Its of importance to strategize the best traffic flow throughout Downtown. It’s been told that the construction team will keep one lane open on the main roads to avoid major detours and will work during the night hours as much as possible. Action/Resolution – an ad hoc committee will strategize after getting information from the meeting. Action/Resolution – contact the town of Wilmington to inquire how their experience was with their recent construction activity.


     Eric Peterson called for the adjournment of the meeting at 8:01am. Action/Resolution - a motion was made to adjourn by Edie Sawitsky, seconded by Laurie Gormley. Motion carried.
